9 Top tips for a Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde is often feared. I mean if you look on any social media, astrology or post you'll see a lot about Mercury retrograde and it's generally quite a big misconception.  I mean, we have two to three Mercury Retrogrades a years, so we have lived through so many already.

Admittedly, it can be a lot energetically – with all that goes wrong being blamed on Mercury Retrograding, but it need not be that way if we just slow down and pay more attention, which is what Mercury is asking of us.

It's actually time for us to go within, really deep and focus on what has worked, what hasn't worked in the past and what we need to do moving forward. It is really good time for reversing, reviewing, reworking or the rewards feeling.

I say this because Mercury is the planet of communication and also governs machinery. Yes, many people do report that they get delayed on journeys, or frustrated with emails, thinking someone has said or said or inferred something when quite frankly they haven't. You also hear a lot of ex’s returning… But it doesn't have to be the big scary thing that most people say it is.

Here are my top tips for getting through the Mercury Retrograde;

1.    Don’t launch anything new!

Don’t launch a new business, or event during a Mercury Retrograde. And also, where possible, don’t sign anything either!

Now realistically, if you have been out of work for ages and desperately need a job, then by all means sign the contract, but remember when Mercury, as the planet of communication, turns retrograde it means a lot of facts are often obscured from view.

So it is not the time to move forward if you are able to put if off a bit. With something new like a contract, if you are able to put off signing until after the retrograde, then great.  If you can’t though, get someone who knows you well to read through it, or maybe even a couple of people to read through it. Ask them for their opinions on the finer points. Alternatively, have a lawyer look at it and go through it in detail so you're fully aware of all the information and what exactly it is that you're signing up to.

What you might find is, without taking the precautions, if you sign a contract now, six months time, or maybe even up to 18 months time, you'll feel that the contract is not in your favor. There are things that should have come out which you weren't aware of at the time and you probably wouldn't have signed it.

2.        Be an early bird!

By this I mean leave time for your journeys. Everyone has to travel, but traveling can be a challenge during the mercury retrograde. This is often because we experience big delays or traffic jams or just kind of stupidity where people just get frustrated. On the roads, on the trains, at airports, at stations,  frustration could be wild as people are likely to be running late for their appointments because there are issues which are outside of their control. Just give yourself extra time to get turned from the places that matter.

3.        Think before you speak!

Mercury is the planet of communication so do the basics like watch your emails, don’t immediately react to something, think before you open your mouth… or you may live to regret it. If you're going to give anything in writing at this time aim to use really basic basic English. Make it very clear.

Don't fluff, just be as clear and concise as you can possibly be to make sure you don't leave any room for misinterpretation. And if you do, just be prepared to explain it at a later date.

4.        Mercury Retrograde wants us to know we aren’t in their head

You can't control other people, or what's happening with other people. People may appear to have short tempers, be easily frustrated or maybe even angry angry. Don’t forget that Mercury is the planet of communication and you don’t know what narrative is going on inside their own heads. Give them space to be able to actually find their own feet. If someone's being short with you, they may be being short for a reason that has nothing to do with you. And remember this goes both ways. If you do find yourself being short with someone else, Just apologize. It's not a big deal. it's not something that has to be overlooked or over thought of with a Mercury Retrograde you're probably going to be overthinking it anyway.

5.        Remember your worth. Stay away from your phone…

Be wary of reconnecting with an ex – Ex Boyfriend, ex girlfriend, ex friend etc. Mercury retrograde gives us the time so we can heal.  It wants us to remember our wounds that we haven’t fully healed. Mercury retrograde wants us to review our past and rework it, so we can move on and leave behind all that doesn’t serve us… There was a reason you didn’t work out the first time around!  And that is the same for any old friends, colleagues etc.

Now this isn’t a one size fit’s all approach.  If you hear from someone from your past, like an old boss you used to work with that you got on well with, then that’s different, but as a general rule, if it is someone who once hurt you or didn’t value you enough, ask yourself, do you really want more of that in your life?

6.        Don’t act yet!

Mercury Retrograde isn’t the best time for you to get a radical new haircut, tattoo or botox for the first time… You may well regret it!

7.        Back it all up!

Back up your laptop, phone, computer, partner’s tech, child’s tech… the list continues! Tech can go haywire in a mercury retrograde.  Systems often crash.  Work can be lost.  Have back ups. Have a cash policy if you won a business for example. It is here to teach you a lesson, so don’t worry about it, but take the steps where you back it all up so you don’t have any hidden surprises that you can’t work through. And while we are at it, be careful about big purchases.

8.        Avoid buying new tech and machinery, including cars!

Avoid spending big on electricals including a car.  Now this may sound bazaar, but I refused to let my husband buy my new car during a Mercury retrograde. I reasoned if it was still there in a months time (we found it on the day Mercury stationed direct), then it was meant to be mine. I wouldn’t even let him put down a deposit… But I didn’t have that sway with his new car. Same day, different garage, he put a massive deposit down, and took a mammoth train journey across the UK to collect it later that week.  Yes, he was delayed with the trains. Yes, he had to stay over night in the end as he got there so late. Yes, he loved the car, but experienced huge 3 hour delay getting home on the motorway, and yes, one month later, the car was in having work done as the breaks had problems. Six months later over the next Mercury Retrograde, more garage repairs. And again, over the third Mercury Retrograde.  My car, had nothing wrong with it.  He did listen to me at the last Mercury Retrograde and waited until it was over before buying a new washing machine though!

9.        Do you shadow work

Learn your limiting belief and then work to change these. The idea is that you want to release everything that no longer serves you so you become the new bigger, brighter version of you that isn’t afraid to shine – brightly!

A Mercury Retrograde is a chance is a chance to really learn to go with the flow. Things outside of your control could well go wrong, just remember that you can control how you handle them, so minimize the issues. Take the steps that you can and look for the lessons, you will emerge a much stronger person a month later.
